Yale Sustainability Summit
March 30th through April 3rd
The Sustainability Summit is a weeklong series of events that integrate environmental, social, and economic priorities across campus. Throughout the week, individuals, groups, and departments around campus will host events aimed at helping members of the Yale community to celebrate Yale’s sustainability successes, build on the campus-wide understanding of sustainability at Yale, and participate in the University’s efforts to use efficiency and innovation as tools for finding balance in these trying economic times.
Activities include lectures, tours, exhibits, film screenings, workshops, and more. To-date, over 40 events have been scheduled. Some highlights include:
Yale Earth Care Committee Chapel Service Celebrating Wilderness (Monday, March 30, 10:30 to 11:30a.m., Marquand Chapel, 409 Prospect St.).
Sustainability Summit T-Shirt Event: Bring your used your white or light-colored t-shirt to Campus Customs to have it screen-printed with the official Summit design at Campus Customs (Monday, March 30, 3:00 to 9:00p.m., at Campus Customs, 57 Broadway).
Better Buying Bazaar: Yale, New Haven, and national vendors will display their efforts to improve efficiency and diminish environmental impacts (Wednesday, April 1, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Presidents' Room, 2nd floor of Woolsey Hall)
Bike New Haven, Eat at the Farm: A bike ride up the Canal Trail and back with pizza at the Yale Farm (Friday, April 3, 4:30 to 7:00p.m. starting at Hillhouse Ave. & Trumbull St. and ending at Yale Farm on Edwards St.).
The week will also feature
Public Lectures: speakers throughout the week will include Laurie Wayburn, Tony Barnosky, Peter Brown, and Bill McKibben.
Museum Exhibits: Modern British Art & the Environment at the Yale Center for British Art and Sustainable Choices, at the Yale Peabody Museum
Workshops: learn about growing vegetables, composting, recycling, and more
